In 2016, in the framework of the celebrations for the X European Patients’ Rights Day, Active Citizenship Network has carried out a research in order to gather good practices: concrete examples of actions aimed at reducing waste and inefficiencies in healthcare (waste caused, for example, by: unnecessary services; excessive administrative costs; inefficiently delivered services; prices set too high; fraud; missed prevention opportunities etc.. ) experienced in EU and no EU countries.
Active Citizenship Network supports the Written Declaration, under Rule 136 of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, on access to employment for those affected by neurological disorders and chronic pain conditions. The initiative is promoted by the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA) and Pain Alliance Europe (PAE) with the aim to encourage research into and access to innovative treatments, promote prevention and self-management approaches, decrease stigma and work together to improve quality of life for people living with these disabling conditions.
Patients’ Voice Project is the first European Union funded project, implementing by the Universal Patient Rights Association (UPRA), that want to help to promote and advocate for patients’ rights in Northern Cyprus. It has become active since March 2016 as a partnership project between UPRA and Active Citizenship Network.
Active Citizenship Network is participating in the European project “Polart Circle” supported by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
Polart Circle initiates a partner’s platform at the European scale, associating art companies, scholars, universities, civil society organisations and youth integration organisations.
Throughout the world, health outcomes have improved dramatically over the past decade. The key to this global health progress has been and continues to be the advance in science-based, medical innovation, including new procedures, diagnostics, health technologies and medicines.
While progress has been made, there is still an urgent need to accelerate the pace of drug discovery and research for tomorrow’s cures to address unmet health needs and to reduce the global and economic burden of illness and disease.
There is also much that must be done to strengthen health systems to ensure that these advancements reach the patients who need them. As Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) says, “Health systems are the foundation for better health. All the donated drugs in the world won’t do any good without an infrastructure for their delivery.”
Active Citizenship Network is participating at the European project “From Citizen Involvement to Policy Impact (U-Impact)” supported by the Europe for Citizens Programme of the European Union.
The project coordinates citizen involvement with the public authorities on national and European level in nine European countries in order to increase the impact of citizen initiatives on the policy making process in the European Union. It is the extension of the EU Project “Joint Citizen Action for a Stronger, Citizen-Friendly Union (JoiEU)”.
